In 1968, Carroll Shelby thought it would be a good idea to fit the 7-litre (428cu in) Cobra Jet engine in his GT500 version of the Mustang. Thus was born the KR (standing for “King of the Road”) of which about 1,000 units were built with either coupe or convertible bodywork.
