The 1966 Toronado blended classic muscle-era power with revolutionary engineering and innovative design. It was the first U.S.-built front-wheel-drive car since the 1937 Cord - and became the template for future GM models. Visually it had a long hood and short deck, hidden flip-up headlamps, a sweeping fastback roofline and a bold front grille and muscular wheel arches. Inside, it sported a futuristic dashboard with a drum-style speedometer, bucket seats and aircraft-inspired controls.
